Everyone Can Be A Beatle!

Everyone Can Be A Beatle!

Everybody loves The Beatles, right? In fact the four lads from Liverpool had such a powerful influence on music appreciators across the planet, that people can't help but honor them.

Here are three of my favorite tributes as perfected by the French Canadians, some South Africans and Nigerians, and Anthony Newley himself.

Mme St. Onge - Il / Help

Mme St. Onge is a mysterious Quebecer whose Les 10 plus grands succes de... album was released somewhere between 1955 and 1975. Her rendition of "Help" sounds like she really needs it.

Assagai - Hey Jude

Assagai were a collective of South African and Nigerian expatriates who lived in London during the 70s. It must have been difficult for any musician living in Britain at that time to not cover a Beatles song. An afro-beat version of "Hey Jude?" Why not?!

Anthony Newley - Within You, Without You

Anthony Newley sang this version of "Within You, Without You" for a 1977 The Beatles Forever variety television show. Melodrama as warbled by the clown prince of Broadway musicals.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the UbuWeb 365 Days Project for sharing these classics.
