Exclusive Interview with Architecture in Helsinki
Coming soon to a town near you is everyone's favorite Australian indie-pop party...Architecture in Helsinki!! This music makes me want to dance with stuffed animals...but not in that weird Furries way. They are on tour supporting their brand new album Places Like This and you should really try to catch them while they are state side, their show is awesome.
Here is their video for the first single "Heart it Races."
A live version of the classic "Do the Whirlwind" as captured by a superfan....
Last night Architecture whirled into town after a six week stint in Europe. The show at the North Star was the first of their US tour and architect Kellie Sutherland spared a moment to sit in the back of a pickup truck with me to talk shop.

Emily: Okay, so when I think about Australian music the first names to pop into my head other than you guys are Nick Cave/ Birthday Party, regrettably Wolfmother, Kylie Minogue, and Chris Knox. Who else should I know when I think about Aussie bands?
Kellie Sutherland: First off, Chris Knox is from New Zealand...
Emily: Whoopsie, sorry!
KS:...and what about INXS, Men at Work, and Land Down Under?
Emily: Egads! I have no idea how I forgot them! Apart from that who else should I know who I have never heard of?
KS: Probably the Soft Tigers. They are self-produced and don't try to overdue anything. Their stuff is poppy without trying too hard and they just covered "Heart it Races."
Emily: Is their version as cool as Dr. Dog's?
KS: It is totally different but still really cool.

EO: Tonight is the first show of the US tour and you just did six weeks in Europe. You ready for another six weeks here?
KS: Yeah, I am. I mean, I'm a bit tired from jet lag but once I'm on stage the adrenaline gets me going. I love to be in the states and visit the cities all over the country- Arizona is a place I'm excited to go to. I'm just grateful that I get to do this right now.
EO: What can be frustrating about touring?
KS: Lack of personal space. We all suffer from cabin fever and what we call the "vibe carousel." In the span of a day moods can change so drastically and the psychological effects on being so close all the time take its toll.
EO: On the bus you must have DVD's you have watched a million times to escape some of the monotany. Yes?
KS: Yeah, we have watched Trapped in the Closet, the R. Kelly soap opera, over and over. The kitsch factor and the music is fucking incredible even artistically I think it is great. So that and the Mighty Boosh.
EO: Right on, well thanks for talking to me Kellie, have fun on tour!
KS: Will do, thanks for the chat!
