There Are Still New Bands Out There That I Like! Hurray for Art Lord and the Self Portraits!!
Wandering about the interweb today, I happened upon Art Lord and the Self-Portraits after browsing through the links page on Dan Deacon's website. If you read the Walrus, you may know that new music isn't usually my thing and frankly, I can't listen to most of it. However, I do believe Mr. Deacon when he describes these Lo-Fi, Synth-Pop, New Wavers as "the best band we played with on the Dan Deacon/Cario Wings tour. Awesome dudes with the best outlook on everything. A musical wonder to be kept for a real lifetime. True winners."
The songs on their Myspace page sound a lot like Power, Corruption, and Lies-era New Order, sprinkled with a bit of Propeller-era Guided By Voices, topped off with some Head on the Door Cure.
In my book, you can't go wrong with that! Come March 2008, the boys will be releasing a 3-disc box set on Valiant Death Records. Check out these mp3's and revel in the post-modern nostalgia!
